Just Treats Please!

Ah. The good old popcorn ball. Remember when you could get something like this in your trick or treat bag & not have to throw it away? These days you even have to worry about brand name candy with melamine in it! Not kidding…check out this one on Snopes. All the more reason to make your own Halloween treats for the kids. See the recipe…
Popcorn Balls
2 bags microwave buttery/salty popcorn
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
10 drops red food coloring (optional)
6 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
Pop microwave popcorn & place in large stockpot, making sure to not get any unpopped kernels in the pot. Set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium high heat. Remove from heat for a second and stir in the sugar and corn syrup. Place back on burner, cook and stir 4 minutes until boiling. Then turn down heat to medium low and cook and stir 4 more minutes. Remove from heat completely and add vanilla and food colorings. Pour mixture over popcorn and stir until completely coated. Grease your hands (or gloves) with butter and shape popcorn into balls. Makes 10-12 medium sized balls.

Thanks for the heads-up on the melamine. Scary stuff- in a bad way. I think I’d be okay eating your popcorn balls.
I sure your kids will enjoy!
