AKA Matt Damon Bars.

I have, at times, crushed on Matt Damon…(note the alias above for this Praline Shortbread recipe). The best thing about this recipe is that you can change it up, and it will still be hot like Matt Damon. If you cook the topping less time, it will have more of a caramel consistency & flavor. If you cook it more, it will have more of a crystallized consistency and brown sugar flavor like pralines. Either way…yum! Read on for the recipe…

Praline Shortbread

Crust
2 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. softened butter

PLUS: 1 c. Pecan pieces to sprinkle over top of crust

Praline Topping
2/3 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar

PLUS: 2/3 c. chocolate chips to sprinkle over top of everything

Preheat oven to 350°. Mix together flour and brown sugar in a 9 X 13 baking pan; cut in butter with a fork until mixture becomes crumbly. Press these ingredients into the bottom of the baking pan to form the base crust. Sprinkle pecans evenly over the crust and set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine praline topping ingredients (butter and brown sugar). Cook over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil, then continue to cook and stir another minute. Remove from heat and spread evenly over pecan covered crust. Put in oven for 12-20 minutes (depending on what consistency you want for your topping). Remove from oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the topping and swirl the chips using a butter knife. Cool and cut into bars.
